A DEMONSTRATION GARDEN FOR WATER CONSERVATION
Water conservation doesn't mean we stop using water. Water scarcity means using water more efficiently.
Following the conserve-collect-reuse water conservation philosophy, El Paso Children's Garden will demonstrate passive water harvesting techniques to capture water in the landscape, soil management to maximize water use, a state-of-the-art Smart Irrigation system adjustable to weather events, and host its own self-contained greywater blackwater recycling system to reuse up to 30% of water for irrigation of non-edible plants.

El Paso Children's Garden will be utilizing a septic system as well as an On-Site Water Treatment System (OWTS) for graywater and blackwater recycling that uses innovative technology in a garden-like setting. Plants hang in racks over a bio-film that attaches to the root structures creating a self-regulating biological water treatment system. The length of time the process takes to clean the water is determined by the desired quality. We intend to re-use recycled water for irrigation of everything but edible plants.
In an elegantly simple, seamless integration of plants and engineering technology, the process is similar to a constructed wetland.
