Welcome to The Hedgerows! In El Paso we have our rock walls but since the Bronze Age, hedgerows...closely spaced shrubs...were planted to mark the boundaries of adjoining fields, line a lane, create a barrier, protect crops from wandering livestock, serve as windbreaks, prevent soil erosion or reduce flooding.

Known as hedgerows they are half earth, half hedge, and can be composed of one variety or a wide range of interwoven brambles, vines and trees such as hawthorn, holly, photinia, oak, willow, red cedar, arborviteae, barberry, box, dwarf conifers, roses and more. They are living fences that provide vital plant diversity and valuable wildlife corridors. So we are going to show you how to "lay a hedge".

HOW TO LAY A HEDGE
Like topiaries, this is another area where we think it will be fun to host a multi-day workshop so you can learn from an expert and have a handy new tool to sustainably divide an area in a most pleasing way.

The design of the garden boasts two winding hedgerows on either side of the path with outside curves marked by the shade of a spreading tree. Inside each curve there's a rock bench that provides a place to pause in this idyllic setting and listen to birdsong or the rustle of leaves.
